Notes from our final meeting

At this morning's meeting we had bagels and blueberry muffins while we discussed the following:

• Author for the month of May, James Patterson as well as Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and What the Dickens by Gregory Maguire.
• The LMC's summer reading list for students
• The Pike's Peak Library District's announcement of their All Pikes Peak Reads for 2011-2012 and DCC HS & MS's participation in the event.
• Thoughts/reflections on book club
  

Reflections on this year's book club/ideas for next year's:

• Students liked reading an author of the month rather than a specific book for the month because it made it easier for them to get a copy of the book in time and gave them the space to read more than one book by the same author.
• Students liked meeting before school because if we met after school then those involved in sports wouldn't be able to come.
• Students would like to meet more frequently next year (every two weeks rather than once a month)
• One student reported that she didn't really like fiction before this year, but that reading it all year in book club (and language arts) has drawn her into it.
• Students would like to include some non-fiction titles next year.
• Students would like to try reading books from a specific genre each month next school year.
