Author for January: Meg Cabot

I think between the snow day and problems with the doors to the library being locked (and the card swipe system not working) there was confusion as to whether or not we met on the January 12th., the second Wednesday of the month. But, in fact, we did! It was a small group, but we chose Meg Cabot as our next author. You can check out Meg's website at: http://www.megcabot.com/ .

Read through some of these descriptions and see which book of hers you might be interested in reading. More options are available on the author's website if you don't see any you like below:

1.) Mediator series
Shadowland (book 1, publisher description): Suze is a mediator -- a liaison between the living and the dead. In other words, she sees dead people. And they won't leave her alone until she helps them resolve their unfinished business with the living. But Jesse, the hot ghost haunting her bedroom, doesn't seem to need her help. Which is a relief, because Suze has just moved to sunny California and plans to start fresh, with trips to the mall instead of the cemetery, and surfing instead of spectral visitations. But the very first day at her new school, Suze realizes it's not that easy. There's a ghost with revenge on her mind ... and Suze happens to be in the way.

2.) Airhead (publisher description): EM WATTS IS GONE.
Emerson Watts didn't even want to go to the new SoHo Stark Megastore grand opening. But someone needed to look out for her sister, Frida, whose crush, British heartthrob Gabriel Luna, would be singing and signing autographs there—along with the newly appointed Face of Stark, teen supermodel sensation Nikki Howard. How was Em to know that disaster would strike, changing her,and life as she'd known it, forever? One bizarre accident later, and Em Watts, always the tomboy, never the party princess, is no longer herself. Literally. Now getting her best friend, Christopher, to notice that she's actually a girl is the least of Em's problems. But what Em's pretty sure she'll never be able to accept might just turn out to be the one thing that's going to make her dream come true….

3.) All American Girl (publisher's description): Top Ten Reasons Samantha Madison is in Deep Trouble. 10.) Her big sister is the most popular girl in school. 9.) Her little sister is a certified genius. 8.) She's in love with her big sister's boyfriend. 7.) She got caught selling celebrity portraits in school. 6.) And now she's being forced to take art classes. 5.) She's just saved the president of the United States from an assassination attempt. 4.) So the whole world thinks she is a hero. 3.) Even though Sam knows she is far, far from being a hero. 2.) And now she's been appointed teen ambassador to the UN. And the number-one reason Sam's life is over?1.) The president's son just might be in love with her.

4.) Avalon High (annotation): Having moved to Annapolis, Maryland, with her medievalist parents, high school junior Ellie enrolls at Avalon High School where several students may or may not be reincarnations of King Arthur and his court.

5.) Being Nikki (annotation): Studious Emerson Watts learns startling news about the family of Nikki Howard, the teen supermodel into whose body Emerson's brain was transplanted by the evil Stark corporation.

6.) Jinx (annotation): Sixteen-year-old Jean "Jinx" Honeychurch, the descendant of a witch, must leave Iowa to live with relatives in Manhattan after the first spell she casts goes awry, but she will have to improve her skills to stop her cousin from practicing black magic that endangers them and the boy they both like.

7.) Vanished (annotation): Jess Mastriani is an ordinary girl who, after being struck by lightning, develops the ability to locate missing children. Jess's gift brings the wrong attention her way and now she must decide what to do with her new power.

If you would prefer to read a second book by Scott Westerfeld in lieu of moving on to the new author, that's perfectly fine! I look forward to meeting up with everyone again on February 9th at 7:15 a.m.! A member of the yearbook staff is supposed to come take our picture that day!

Also, if you would like to write a small book review or create a book trailer for of one of the books you've read so far this year, we'd love to have it on our blog! Just submit it to Miss Miller.
