The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

The first meeting of the Middle Level Book Club was this morning! During the meeting we decided to focus our first month on author, Neil Gaiman. Some students decided to read The Graveyard Book and others Coraline. The Graveyard Book won both the Newberry (award for the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children) and Hugo Awards (award for best science fiction or fantasy) in 2009 and then received the Carnegie medal (awarded to an outstanding book for children and young adult readers) in 2010. It should be an exciting read! E-mail Miss Miller (sasha.miller@asd20.org) if you'd like suggestions of other titles by Gaiman!

Reminder that the DCC libraries are sponsoring a pumpkin carving/decorating contest at the end of this month. Carve or decorate a pumpkin to look like a book or book character. Bring the pumpkin to your grade level library by Thursday, October 28th. Voting will take place on Friday, October 29th and pumpkins will be used to decorate the library's Books Alive! room at the school Halloween carnival on Saturday, October 30th. Please consider participating whether you carve/decorate a pumpkin on The Graveyard Book or not!

Our next meeting will be in the Middle Level Library on Wednesday, November 10th from 7:15-7:55. At this time and place on the second Wednesday of each month. Look forward to reading with you!
